The images of the Japanese photographer Yuko lure us into a magic world and I am very pleased and proud to present them here. The special feature of Yuko’s photographs is the fact that she captures the ordinary everyday world of herself and her life in her paintings. This is done in a brilliant way, as she photographs in 35mm and medium format and often with Polaroid. And this analog photography provides a certain something to her pictures, which often is being lost in today’s digital photography. Whether it is the blurring or the addition of color, her paintings captivate the viewer and return him to past times, when the strengths of the camera and lenses were no issue, where taking pictures was purely and simply a challenge. And this can be seen in the pictures, they exude the flair and charm of the moment of recording. It’s the kind of composition, the play with focus and exposure, which provides the specific mood to these images.
