I clicked through his portfolio and I was immediately awe-struck by his photo series of his children Haru and Mina, and trying to explain the extra-ordinary features in these photos is not easy, but I will dare, nevertheless. At first glance, these images appear to be pictures from a family album, but then, if one is willing to really pay attention, they open themselves up, and one recognizes what it is all about. It is the simplicity and beauty, the poetic depth of his pictures that draws the viewer. None of these pictures have been taken just as souvenirs, even if one may think so at first. These are no snapshots just for the photo’s sake. These photos invade one’s senses, sometimes covertly, but often more harshly. I see a number of great photos by great photographers, many inspire me, some really move me, but few actually leave an indelible impression on me, and Hideaki’s work does this. I feel that through his photos I can get closer to the true meaning of photography, and can understand him better. It is his gift and talent to have this view of things and to base his photographs on it. Actually, any attempt to explain Hideaki’s photography can only fail.
