Apart from her digital photography, New York-based Baohien photographs primarily in analog mode on 35 mm film. Her fresh and unpretentious approach and style comes across in her pictures. As mentioned earlier in a previous blog post, the use of analog cameras results in different effects than the use of digital technology. The colors of the images are very often softer and more harmonious; the grain provides that certain something, a personal touch, so to speak. Bohlen’s style is reminiscent of some kind of diary, in which she records her experiences and everyday life, often posing for the photos herself. She creates photos everyone would like to be able to shoot. With so much creativity, it is not surprising that Baohien takes the camera everywhere she travels. In totality, her creative and especially informal way of photographing comes in useful in her professional work in portrait and fashion photography.
