Tatsuo is a Japanese photographer who focuses on street photography. Virtually all of his work is in black and white and taken in Tokyo. Tatsuo’s images don’t just show snapshots of the people he meets there, instead they tell stories. The special thing about his images is that he manages to capture these stories in one shot and touch the viewer emotionally. It is the story of life in all its facets and with all its nuances, which he reflects in the faces of his subjects. Sometimes they are young and fresh, but often they are marked by age and the strain of city life. The kind of people in his images are those whom we encounter everywhere in cities and hardly ever take notice of. But Tatsuo has done this, developing truly masterful shots — gritty, realistic, and above all, very personal moments of his subjects. In doing this, Tatsuo never exposes them or shows them off; he portrays them like life itself — unique and filled with many facets.
Also please note the interview with Tatsuo here, it is very interesting and worth reading especially.
